I'VE MOVED INTO COLLEGE! [23 Feb 2004|11:28am]
wooo so much is going on. for those who don't know, i moved into international house college on campus yesterday!
so i'm pasting an email i sent out to a bunch of friends!

Well Kids,

I've finally snuck away to have some quiet time to myself in my new home - how weird.
Yes, my little home consists of a bedroom, with a nice warm yellow wardrobe (which is HUGE), a small bookshelf, a desk, a corkboard, a bed (the mattress is a little hard for my liking) and a balcony which looks out onto some rainforesty garden - it's pretty nice. I'm on level one so it's a bit cooler down here - but trust me my fan is on full blast!

Last night we had this 'blind date' dinner where the girls picked a capital city out of a bucket, and the guys picked a country out of a bucket - then we had to try to find our 'date'. I was Algiers and I had to find Algeria. Algeria turned out to be a Spanish-speaking mexican guy called Balentine. He was an alright looker - yeah me!

Dinner wasn't too bad - but all the second and third years assure me I'll be over it after a month..
After that we had tower meetings in each tower's common room. I'm with a pretty cool bunch of people...but I've only met about ten of them so far because lots of people are coming back next week. On my floor I have two second year Aussies and they're the party animals of the tower - lucky me.. i think? Plus a Chinese guy, and someone who hasn't moved back yet. There's an Australian girl Anna, who's been living in Dubai for the past couple of years.. she's seventeen as well so I'm not the only youngin here! Then there's Lucy who is also Australian. There's a South African called Loaw or some sort of spelling - said Lo. He's cool and has a cool accent! There's Hiroe, a Japanese girl.. and then a few other asian girls who I haven't really got to know yet. Giri is my senior resident and he's really nice! Yeah basically everyone's real nice!!

This morning we were woken up at 6am by the fire alarm! It turned out to be a drill so we know where to go. After that we went on a early morning walk around campus.. haha.. when we got back we were having a group photo of the freshers so everyone had to sit/kneel/stand on the grass.. We had to had to say 'hello' in a weird voice for the photo, and just as the guy was taking the photo the second/thirds poured water down on us from a balcony above out of these huge tubs - it was a total downpour!! We were all saturated and had no idea it was going to happen!! It was alright though because it's been hot - wish they'd done it yesterday though!!

This afternoon a bunch of us are going into Indooripilly shopping centre to get the stuff we need but forgot/don't have. I'm buying some running shorts because boardies don't work so well!

Tonight's Hawaiian BYO Night in Ivor Cribb (the hall under the dining room!?) Can't wait :)

Write me emails!
<3 dana

ps: There hasn't been any torturous initiation stuff (kim + pav i want to know about your experiences haha!) - this morning we saw all the cromwell kids on the grass in the great court wearing their cromwell tshirts and these silly pink hats. The senior residents were making them do weird stuff like they were an army and they had water guns lol.. i think they were embarrassed. But it's all good because we've been told that crowmell is 'alright' because they're a nextdoor neighbour kind of thing.. We do a swap over dinner with them and grace tomorrow night woot.

I AM MELTING.

It is about 35 degrees celsius and the fan is on full blast and I've already drowned myself with about fifty litres of water! Even wearing a bikini does not suffice..but no I won't go nakey.

Ah and instead of swimming I'm at this damn computer trying to get it organised for when I move to college on Sunday.
I LOST MY PHOTOSHOP 7 SERIAL NUMBER I could seriously cry. I cannot live without photoshop. I tried downloading cracks but they don't work and I don't want a virus. :( Does anyone have one they can give me? i would give you the best massage..

I'm about half packed, there's just so much stuff I want to take I don't know how I'm going to get it all up the stairs without breaking my back. Oh well I'll see what happens I guess.

My new site is going to be up tomorrow night *jumps up and down*.

Well I thought it was about time I updated this LJ!
This weekend has actually turned out to be pretty good - when I was expecting it to be crap because of Valentines Day and all the things it means to people who aren't involved.
But yeah, so yesterday I had a nice sleep in, then walked to Amy's house (about 3kms) in the heat of the day. Not the wisest of my ideas, but it contributed its little bit to making me more fit. And trust me I NEED IT. Anyway so I pretty much jumped in her pool straight away and we spent about two hours in there talking about what we should do last night, but never really making any decisions. Then the champ made me pasta! Woo I like going to her house :) After this I got my brother to come pick me up (too lazy to walk back) and Claire and I decided on the phone we'd go to david's 18th because it was just a short walk from her house.

So we rocked up at about 9.30pm after having a couple of drinks at Claire's. ANd woo - it was good to see all the kids again! I hadn't seen a lot of them since Lacey's party last month, and not everyone was invited to that so some I hadn't seen since Ryan's 18th. Twas good :) We met heaps of cool people - haha lots of Kayakers - I met + danced with the Australian junior champ! Ahh yes but it was the kayaking boy with the blonde hair that caught my eye, or maybe i just walked into him haha. He was cute. Soooo we walked home at 1.30 and yeah it was a good night!

Now I feel slightly hung over and really tired! Cool because I work at 1pm - well I guess it's alright because I have a couple of hours to recover.

And today is Chloe's eighteenth - lucky bitch!

RAD.
I just got home from the most awesome day/night! Well let me start at the beginning..
at about 10am Dave picked me up (along with his cousin andre, + lawson) and we started the drive to Brisbane, stopping at Yatala so they could get their maccas fix. First we went to the house in West End where dave and some others are living. It's totally sweet, they have everything they need in there and it's only a short walk to a citycat jetty. So after chilling there for a while Chelsea drove us into the city where we started the long wait in the line up for the thrice/alkaline trio/hot water music instore signing at Skinny's.
This was at about 12.45. We took turns going off and doing stuff, like eating, and the guys went and looked at the comic book shop hehe. Eventually we got into the store at about 3pm perhaps, but there was also a lineup inside. Getting my artist in the ambulance album signed was awesome. I got a photo with Teppei =] And I must note how HOTT bassist Eddie is :):):) It was just really cool to see all the guys from the three bands (minus one of the trio) mixed up along the signing tables hanging out and drinking beer! Woot. So by the time we got out it was probably 4pm, and after buying some OJ and coke we caught the citycat back to dave's for drinks.
After this of course no one was able to drive so we caught taxis into the valley.
Yeah so we were in the arena at about 7.20pm. The supporting aussie band was nation blue, who I hadn't heard before. These guys were really good!
Next was Hot Water Music, who played really good!! I kind of got a bit mesmerised watching Chris play his guitar and sing, he looked like he was having so much fun - and he looked so drugged and happy it was awesome!
Then was THRICE. Definitely my favourite of the night! I was so amped to see them and they met and surpassed all my expectations. I'm pretty sure they played all or most of artist in the ambulance, and a few oldies. All That's Left and Stare at the Sun are my faves off the newest album, so experiencing them live was probably the highlight of the night!
Alkaline Trio was also great. I'm not a huge fan of alk, but it was good to stand back and watch everyone get into it. All their fans looked like they were having the best time and they performed swankily (although i'd never seen them before so i have nothing to compare with).

Yeah! So fun was had by all :)
I'm on such a hiiiigh right now!
Mmmhmm, can't wait for dashy.

valentines day has got me thinking about how much i hate hookups. there's that temporary rush from hooking up with some random, but then its over as soon as it began and there's NO EMOTION. I just want to feel something for someone again, I want to know someone feels something for me. I want *real* kisses and cuddles.
damn being alone.

I AM SO OVER SURFERS PARADISE.
I have been in there the last four nights in a row, it is REALLY sad. The first two night were with Georgie, the third with Claire and Amy and the fourth with Amy and Hayden.
Friday night was the most random.
Georgie and I were driving along the esplanade (with MY music for a change amped up) and these two cute boys yelled out 'hey can we have a lift', while we were driving. I just laughed and yelled out 'yeah' and we kept driving. But when we drove past again about twenty minutes later they were still there, and this time we had to stop because of traffic so they came over. Georgie told them to get in! This was totally random and I don't really like it when she does stuff like that but yeah whatever they got in.. buuut Georgie NEVER stops the car when people get in she keeps driving (i once got a real bad bruise on my arm!) so as the second guy (gorgeous curly hair) was getting in he hit is foot really bad.. but we thought he was joking so we're laughing at him and were all like 'yeah sure!'.. poor guy.. anyway long story short, he got my number and called me later on. I just couldn't believe he was calling me - and he asked me if i wanted to catch up.. I said yeah maybe because i wasn't sure if he was being serious, and I asked him what his name was and he said rhett.. OH GOD i'd never really heard of this name before, only the expression rhet.. and I was like oh rhett, as in retarded? AHhh i think i fully shut him down. So basically we hurt this guy's foot, I called him retarded - and he calls me tonight and still wants to go out with me? WHAT!? Stuff like this doesn't happen to me.. and I really don't know what to do. Part of me wants to because he was the cutest hottest thing ever, but i know I'm moving in three weeks - AND i have a feeling he is a year younger and still at school this year.. SO help.. I hate making decisions damn it.

Tonight was errr.. I just find Hayden's arrogance intoxicating at times. He just loves himself SO much, and it's fifty millions times worse now that he's out of the closet. I can only handle so much because he's so quick to tell other people they're wrong EVEN WHEN THEY'RE RIGHT! It's just blah. Anyway, so Amz and Hayden ate at la porchetta, so I watched because I'd already eaten. Then we had coffee at GJ's and amy had lemon pie and hayden had caramel slice. Then we went to Cold Rock so i could get my cookies n cream + choc mint + crunchie.. YUM! Then we walked, and now I'm home.

Thrice/Alk3/HWM is on Friday.. woah it's so soon.

i love political songs.

Happiest Place on Earth
By Desaparecidos

I want to pledge allegiance to the country where I live
I don’t want to be ashamed to be American
But opportunity, no, it don’t exist
It’s the opiate of the populace
We need some harder shit now
The truth is getting around
And each public school is a halfway house
Where the huddled masses somber up and up
Enough?
There’s not enough to fatten the cows and feed all of us
It’s just a rationing of luck
What can’t be bought gets raffled off
Oh God, good God
Shed greed on thee
Your shining sea turned a dirty green from the industry
Off the shores of New Jersey
I got a letter from the army, so I think that I’ll enlist
I’m not brave or proud of nothing I just want to kill something
Too bad that nowadays you just point and click
Swing Lo satellite, hot white chariot!
In the computer’s blue glare, the bombs burst in the air
There was a city once-- now nothing is there
Our freedom comes at their expense
It makes sense, doesn’t it?
Dollars and cents
They’re stretching barbed wire across the picket fence
That is surrounding your housing development
Just in case you lack the confidence
My God, oh God, give strength to thee
These amber waves, purple majesty
are nothing but backdrops for Disney
Well, look up close
It is superimposed on a blank blue screen
It is fantasy, fucking magical
The dream floats like a chemical through each snapped synapse
Our television past that is beautiful no more, no more.

-----------------------------------------------------------
note to the people who read my lj: i'd like to change the header, and colour scheme of my layout - I need a colour that goes with black.. suggestions?
-----------------------------------------------------------

WELL KIDDIES, today was grand. I worked 9am to 6pm, which sucked somewhat - but seeing as it is AUSTRALIA DAY, I get paid double time and a half! Yeah! I really need the money, so while I was re-hanging the five millions bras and tshirts and jeans and whatnot, the thought of my pay-check kept me going! Now I'm just.. tired.

Lately I've been thinking about where I'm going to apply for a job once I move to Brisbane. I'm thinking I'd like to work for either a stylish clothing store, or the Body Shop. The Body Shop are all for defending human rights, and I've read one of Anita Roddick's books and it was SO inspiring. I think the greater majority of people (including myself) are so unaware of the crap that goes on in the world. The suffering that happens, LARGELY due to our own western world consumerist ways, is shocking.. but I'm determined to make myself more aware, and do stuff to help. When uni starts I'm definitely signing up for the UQ Amnesty International club.
